Background:
Small Business Ideas Blog was started as a content marketing experiment and to share business and marketing ideas.
The Challenge:
Business and digital marketing is a competitive space with a lot of already established bloggers. The big challenge was to increase traffic to the site, get noticed by influencers and drive traffic by SEO and social media. The bar is very high for quality content as much has already been written about business and marketing.
When the blog was started, content was created arbitrarily. But in 2013, we started implementing a content strategy designed to drive traffic to the site.
What We Did:
To stand out from competitors, we did several things. We started by studying successful blogs in the niche and analyzing their content. We started writing longer & more authoritative posts, implementing design elements to increase sharing on visual channels and using outreach to promote our work.
The results:
In 2013, our blog traffic increased by over 700% and in 2014, the traffic to the blog continued to increase by over 1,380% from the previous year. Search engine traffic also increased over 1,300% in 2014. Creating high quality content and combining it with a promotion strategy paid off.
